I Peter 2.23-24 Suffering and Healing
A reflection on morning prayer.
When he was abused, he did not return abuse; when he suffered, he did not threaten; but he entrusted himself to the one who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sin, we might live for righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. I Peter2.23-24 (NRSV)
Perhaps you have heard the old saying, “No good deed goes unpunished.” or the humbler saying, “Be kind. For you do not know the battles others wage.” If Christ’s suffering has healed me and I am exhorted to be like Christ, an image-bearer of Christ, then my suffering too has the power to heal others. Therefore when I am abused and do not return abuse; when I suffer and do not threaten, But entrust myself to the one who judges justly, I model Christ to others, living for righteousness and by my wounds others can be healed.
