It Starts With Honesty: A Self-Made Trap in the Gun Control Debate

A predictable self made trap of stiff gun control advocates when I discuss the issue in person.
They’ll ask: Why do you need to be armed ? They pretend incredulity. It absolutely is pretend . I’m not sure if it’s purposeful or not . Maybe. Doesn’t really matter.
They pretend *they themselves believe* that the world is not dangerous. That somehow, you must be mentally ill to ever want to be trained and armed .
But then of course they “demand action” and “enough” and the other words some six figure blowhard charged them to produce after consulting fees. If the world is so safe that a rational person would never want to be trained in self defense, or armed on the road, in public , why are you doing what you’re doing , saying what you’re saying?
They always always look at me as if they’ve never thought about that before.
All I ask is for more honesty. It starts with honesty with oneself, and self awareness.
A lot of my work is just getting adults to be honest about what they believe and about what they don’t believe . (Hardly anyone really truly believes Republicans are racists, for instance). It takes persistence and kindness and humor, though. I’m talking about in person. I talk to anyone anytime anywhere.
