Relativism in the Coffee Shop
A Memoir by Lucas J. Mather
I spent virtually the entire day ending or starting most sentences with some variant of “in my view,” or “that’s [this is is] just me and my tradition,” peppered with the occasional, “I’m not saying I’m correct,” and the flamboyant, “I would never want to force that onto anyone.”
It’s a little tedious when they just want to know if you would like a receipt, but hey.

Now, they say “perfect” if you want your receipt.
The next guy didn’t want his receipt. She said that was perfect, too.
It was only then that I pointed out that perfection is one thing, imperfection is anything short of perfection. No, it’s imperfect, I said. Perfection isn’t imperfection. Wanting a receipt isn’t a sufficient condition for perfection. Not wanting it isn’t, either. Let’s not lose this distinction.
It’s not just “marriage” that Democrats want to redefine. It’s perfection and imperfection and a host of other words, as well.
